Paubrasilia echinata, endemic to the Atlantic forest of eastern Brazil, from Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia south into Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro; heartwood yellowish orange to reddish brown, orange-brown when freshly cut and darkening on exposure, sharply demarcated from a whitish-yellow sapwood, with straight or occasionally interlocked grain.
