Tonewood Atlas
About the Tonewood Atlas crawler
Tonewood Atlas is a public discovery tool for boutique acoustic guitars. We aggregate live inventory from a curated set of specialty dealers in North America, the UK, and Europe to make boutique acoustics easier to find and compare. We don’t sell anything; every listing links back to the shop that has it.
How the crawler behaves
- Daily, not hourly. One request per second per host at most, and slower where a site asks for slower — we read your
robots.txtat onboarding and honor the crawl-delay it specifies. - We read only public catalogue pages — the same pages any visitor can load. No accounts, no carts, no checkout, no admin paths.
- We never rehost images. Photos load from your own CDN, in the visitor’s browser.
- We never sell guitars. Every listing deep-links straight to the dealer, with the referrer intact, so we appear as a traffic source in your own analytics.
- The dealer–brand associations we surface are derived from observed inventory; we label them as such and never imply official authorized-dealer status from the manufacturer.
How to have your site removed
Email hello@tonewoodatlas.com and we will stop crawling your site and remove your listings immediately, no questions asked and no explanation needed. A person reads that address.
One thing we’d rather state plainly than have you discover: our requests usually carry an ordinary browser user-agent rather than a distinctive bot name, so a robots.txt rule aimed at a named bot won’t reliably single us out. We published such a name for our first year and retired it in July 2026, after platform-level bot defenses began throttling us on that basis regardless of what the individual shop wanted. Email is the control that works, and it is the one we act on.
