Samanea saman, native to Central America and northern South America and planted so widely across the tropics that the Hawaiian monkeypod reaching instrument shops is this same introduced species rather than a Hawaiian native; golden to dark brown, sometimes with darker streaks, over a thin yellow-white sapwood clearly demarcated from the heartwood.
