Cupressus sempervirens, native to the eastern Mediterranean and east to Iran and introduced long ago across the western Mediterranean including Spain, where most guitar stock is cut; pale yellowish to pinkish brown heartwood that shifts toward light tan with time, over a lighter, clearly demarcated sapwood, with straight grain broken by small knots.
