The Wood Key
Umbellularia californica, which grows from southwest Oregon south through California into northern Baja California; light orange-brown through grey to olive, sometimes darkly streaked, with a pale and usually well-defined sapwood, and frequently curly, mottled or burled — a laurel, unrelated to the true myrtles (Myrtus), and also sold as Oregon myrtle.
