The Wood Key
Swietenia macrophylla, growing from Mexico through Central America into Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and the Brazilian Amazon; pale pinkish brown to darker reddish brown, darkening with age, with grain that runs straight, interlocked, irregular or wavy over a uniform medium texture — the same species the trade also sells as Honduran, big-leaf and genuine mahogany.
