Swietenia mahagoni, native to south Florida and the Greater Antilles, and the original mahogany of the trade rather than the S. macrophylla sold today as “genuine mahogany”; heartwood ranging from pale pinkish brown to a darker reddish brown, grain straight, interlocked, irregular or wavy, medium and uniform in texture.
