The Wood Key

Santos Rosewood

Machaerium scleroxylum · hardwood · in the Rosewood family

Machaerium scleroxylon, from Bolivia and neighbouring Brazil and Paraguay — a Machaerium and not a Dalbergia, so not a true rosewood, and the same wood the trade sells as pau ferro, morado and Bolivian rosewood; reddish orange through dark violet-brown with contrasting black streaking, over a pale yellow sapwood clearly demarcated from the heart.
