The Wood Key
In the timber trade “cedar” is attached to more than a dozen species across divergent genera, few of them true cedars (Cedrus); on a guitar soundboard it is almost always western red cedar, Thuja plicata, while the Spanish cedar of classical necks is Cedrela odorata, a mahogany relative.
