The Wood Key
Juglans hindsii × J. regia, a Californian cross between the native black walnut and the introduced Persian walnut, arising where the two grow together in and around old orchards; light gold and honey through reddish brown to near-chocolate, frequently with darker streaks and curly, rippled or feathered grain — “Bastogne” is a timber-trade label for one of these “Paradox” hybrids, not a botanical name.
