The Wood Key
Juglans regia, native from eastern Türkiye through to the western Himalaya and cultivated across Europe long enough that Italian, English, French, European, Circassian and Persian walnut all name this one species by provenance rather than by botany; pale brown to dark chocolate brown with darker streaks and sometimes a grey, purple or reddish cast, over nearly white sapwood.
