The Wood Key
Picea abies, the same species sold as European, German and Alpine spruce — “Carpathian” names the mountain arc running through Romania, Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia, all of it inside the species' native range, not a distinct wood; creamy white with a hint of yellow or red, fine and even in texture, with a consistently straight grain.
