About Casimi Guitars
Casimi Guitars are built in Cape Town, South Africa by Matthias Roux and Matthew Rice — two best friends who grew up together and joined forces at Maingard Guitars before launching the Casimi name. The shop is two people by intent: Roux does the voicing and structural work, Rice handles design and aesthetics, and every guitar is built by both of them with no CNC anywhere in the process. Each Casimi takes roughly two and a half months to complete, uses a lattice bracing pattern Roux developed over several years of experimentation, and carries hand-cut inlay in precious metals and rare hardwoods — Quilted Mahogany from The Tree, African Blackwood, Hawaiian Koa, Alpine spruce soundboards harvested at the lunar low-sap point in the European violin tradition. Annual output runs about ten guitars in a strong year. They are among the most expensive instruments tracked on Tonewood Atlas; players like Guy Buttery have championed them, and a small global circle of collectors keeps the wait list long.
