Santa Cruz Guitar Company
Santa Cruz Guitar Company has built guitars in Santa Cruz, California since 1976, when Richard Hoover founded the shop to bring violin-lutherie traditions into acoustic guitar building. Each top is tap-tuned and voiced by hand in a strictly climate-controlled workshop. Its connection with Tony Rice — the Tony Rice Model evokes the pre-war Martin D-28 voice he was known for — anchored its reputation in bluegrass flatpicking, and over five decades the catalog has grown into a deep custom-shop operation where most builds are individually specified rather than spec-built.
Maple Street Guitars
Maple Street Guitars has been operating in Atlanta's Buckhead district for decades — a hands-on shop with one of the deepest boutique acoustic floors in the Southeast. Walking through their inventory at any given month surfaces serious depth on Collings alongside Santa Cruz, Lowden, Goodall, Bourgeois, Furch, and Larrivée's top-tier work — a curatorial mix that more closely resembles a Northeast destination shop than its market would predict. They run new and used inventory side by side, with the used catalog often including hard-to-find vintage examples from the same builders.
