Bourgeois Guitars
Bourgeois Guitars are built in Lewiston, Maine, in a shop led by Dana Bourgeois — one of the most quietly influential voicers in acoustic guitar making. Dana spent decades refining his ear before the brand took its current shape, and players who care about tone trade notes about the dry, fundamental "Bourgeois" voice the way wine drinkers talk about terroir. Each top is still hand-voiced by ear rather than built to a fixed spec. Since a 2019 strategic partnership with the Eastman Music Company, Dana has stayed on as an owner and CEO with his team building in Lewiston as before — the partnership widened the brand's reach while the Maine workshop kept doing what it always has.
The Guitar Sanctuary
The Guitar Sanctuary is a boutique shop in McKinney, Texas — a half hour north of Dallas — that frames itself as "shelter from the retail storm": a curated showroom with high-craft builders front and center and a sales floor staffed to actually know the instruments. The shop is more than retail. Their Performance Academy runs one-on-one lessons across guitar, vocal, piano, and bass with rolling enrollment, and they host live concerts in their own events space — students get stage time alongside touring acts, learning the room as much as the instrument. Their boutique acoustic shelves anchor on Bourgeois (Touchstone, Custom Shop, and Aged Tone Series), Collings, Lowden, and McPherson.
