Santa Cruz Guitar Company
Santa Cruz Guitar Company has built guitars in Santa Cruz, California since 1976, when Richard Hoover founded the shop to bring violin-lutherie traditions into acoustic guitar building. Each top is tap-tuned and voiced by hand in a strictly climate-controlled workshop. Its connection with Tony Rice — the Tony Rice Model evokes the pre-war Martin D-28 voice he was known for — anchored its reputation in bluegrass flatpicking, and over five decades the catalog has grown into a deep custom-shop operation where most builds are individually specified rather than spec-built.
Guitar Village
Guitar Village has traded from West Street in Farnham, Surrey, for more than 30 years: well over a thousand guitars across 15 demo rooms in a 15th-century building on the Surrey–Hampshire border, 45 minutes from London, with two more restored period rooms and a Vintage Guitar Gallery. Every member of staff plays guitar — a condition of working there — and the shop describes the feel it aims for as a "homely ambience". The boutique acoustic shelf is Atkin and Bourgeois alongside Martin and Taylor, plus a vintage and rare section; they sell worldwide through the website.
