Santa Cruz Guitar Company
Santa Cruz Guitar Company has built guitars in Santa Cruz, California since 1976, when Richard Hoover founded the shop to bring violin-lutherie traditions into acoustic guitar building. Each top is tap-tuned and voiced by hand in a strictly climate-controlled workshop. Its connection with Tony Rice — the Tony Rice Model evokes the pre-war Martin D-28 voice he was known for — anchored its reputation in bluegrass flatpicking, and over five decades the catalog has grown into a deep custom-shop operation where most builds are individually specified rather than spec-built.
Burgo's Guitars
Burgo's Guitars is a by-appointment shop in Palmer Lake, a small town on the Front Range between Denver and Colorado Springs, built around the idea that choosing a handmade guitar should be unhurried — visits happen in a private demo room off a climate-controlled showroom, at whatever pace the player wants. The selection is tight rather than broad: Santa Cruz, Bourgeois, Boucher and Huss & Dalton alongside top-end Larrivée, with a standing shelf for local and small-shop luthiers. It reads as a room assembled by someone who plays them all.
