David Flammang builds custom flat-tops in Greene, Iowa, with a stated focus on one thing above all: a strong, rich, well-balanced voice. His small catalog spans the familiar boutique body sizes — Grand Concert, OO, jumbo and his EL and C-series models, including 12-strings — drawing on pre-war design with a refined modern hand, in tonewoods from torrefied red spruce and Lutz over Honduran mahogany to Brazilian and Indian rosewood. The work is carried by some of the country's most selective acoustic dealers.
