Pellerin Guitars
Pellerin Guitars come out of Thetford Mines, Quebec — a two-builder shop run by Michel Pellerin and partner François C. Paradis, who have produced about 250 guitars over twenty-five years. Michel trained at the École Nationale de Lutherie du Québec in 1998 and took Ervin Somogyi's voicing class in 2011; the work since carries both lineages. Two things stand out: an unusually deep harp-guitar practice (6-, 13-, and 21-string builds, the latter at $29,500 base) and a strict salvaged-wood-only policy for soundboards — Sitka spruce, Western red cedar, Alaskan yellow cedar — pulled from forest sources where the wood has aged fifty years or more in place, cells emptied and resins crystallized. Forum descriptions tend toward "grand piano" and "a mix of Goodall and Somogyi tones." Current wait is twenty-six months.
